The Shift From PRT To AMRT: What It Means For Mineral Reporting Compliance

The Responsible Minerals Initiative or RMI is an organization which is involved in promoting the responsible resourcing of the minerals in global supply chains especially with the conflict minerals. Hence, as a result the RMI has collaborated with many participant companies to establish ethical sourcing of the minerals and to ensure that responsible mining is maintained in the supply chain.

Also, the companies that are collaborating with the RMI can also use the range of tools offered by the RMI like Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT), Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT), and the Pilot Reporting Template (PRT) to assess the risks in the supply chain and adhere with th global compliance.

However, the RMI has recently announced changes in the mineral reporting templates to enhance efficiency and the participation of the supply chains. Therefore, the Pilot Reporting Template (PRT) has been renamed as the Additional Minerals Reporting Template (AMRT) emphasizing its transition state from pilot phase. Therefore, the blog explores the importance of the shift from PRT To AMRT and what it means for Mineral Reporting Compliance.

PRT Renaming:

The RMI has recently announced the transition phase of The Pilot Reporting Template (PRT) to the Additional Minerals Reporting Template (AMRT) which is called the version 1.2 and set to release during the month of October 4, 2024. The transition from the pilot phase to the version 1.2 emphasizes the program is matured enough beyond the initial state. However, the only changes that participant companies can expect from this announcement is the inclusion of the German language.

Empowering The Participant Companies:

The RMI is also taking possible initiatives to encourage the participant companies to use the AMRT. It is because the PRT had low adoption because of the pilot label making the companies to see it as less important or unofficial. Hence, with the transition of PRT to AMRT, RMI expects its participant companies to use it for mineral reporting in 2024.

Expansion Of The EMRT:

With the announcement of the renaming PRT to AMRT, the Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT) was also revised by adding four more minerals such as  copper, graphite (natural), lithium, and nickel which will be released during the month of April 2025. Also, this template will also include the mine-level facility tab in order to meet the standards of EU Battery Regulation reporting needs.

Support And Training:

The RMI plans to create guidance and training materials to help companies with the updated AMRT versions and invites feedback or inquiries from stakeholders.
